Her name is Belle (short for Isabella), she is a 4 year old B&T spayed female. She gets along well with other dogs, is a confirmed couch potato and very well behaved (even walks nicely on a leash!!) She comes from trailing stock, but I don't know how her nose is ...she is much more driven by comfort than by smell. When Larry Wissinger and his wife Pat got stung by the 'gotta adopt' bug again, those words were their introduction to Belle. They had been interviewing possible North East Bloodhound Rescue (NEBR) adoptees, via the internet, with the help of Betsy Copeland, an NEBR volunteer. Belle sounded ideal. They already had two dogs. Beau, the Bloodhound and Rusty the Basset, both adopted from the SPCA. If the above introduction to Belle was enough to spark their interest, the rest of her story clinched it for them. They had to have her. Had to give her the home she desperately deserved. No loving creature should be shuffled through life the way Isabella was. Here's her story.
Belle was originally bought with her brother, as a his and hers bloodhound set. Eventually the owner (male half) got tired of caring for 2 dogs, and gave away his wife's dog.....Belle.
She was kept by the foster home of the adoption center for 8 months before trying to place her.
She was in her next home for only two months before they returned her saying, "We decided that we really didn't want a dog after all".
She then went to NEBR and was scheduled to go to a couple in Maine. However, before Belle could be 'sent home', they backed out because it would take too long to complete their fenced yard.
The next home seemed ideal; A couple and their 19 year old son. Belle was the family pet, but the boy was her owner. He'd done his research and was financially prepared to care for a bloodhound. He'd wanted one for years. She was there one week when NEBR got the call that the parents were divorcing, that Belle had to go. The boy was devastated, and Belle was homeless again.
Then came the Wissinger's, Belle's final home. She's with them now and forever. She swept into the house and quickly let everyone know that the queen was home. Belle is not aggressive in anyway, yet Rusty and Beau defer to her. She's everything Betsy said she was in describing her, but more. She's warm, she's real, not just words on a computer screen. When Larry writes to the Bloodhound Bunch about her, he refers to her as Queen Isabella, and he writes of her with much love.
Belle is finally home.
