Brutus came to us, or rather we went to Brutus, at the end of March. We heard about Brutus soon after signing on to the list and after much discussion Jan and I decided to call Julie Northshield. He was in rescue at NEBR and at first we thought, "Oh, Nebraska wouldn't be to far to drive." Well, we soon found out that NEBR did not stand for the state and we would actually be going in the wrong direction.Julie told us she would be in Syracuse, NY on March 29th for a show so we decided to drive there to get Brutus. It was also going to be a homecoming for us. We lived in Syracuse for 2 or 3 years after we were married. Julie described Brutus as a slug with fur and at first that is what he was. But, that has changed!!!!
>From what we know Brutus was owned by a little old lady in Baltimore who had the misfortune of dieing. Brutus was taken in by another family who apparently mistreated him--though to what extent we're not sure.
It took about 10 days for him to find his voice but once he did he really loosened up and started becoming a true Bloodhound. His beying is music to our ears. He still doesn't know quite how to play yet but I think that will eventually come too.
Brutus is a 7 1/2 years old Black and Tan and a real head turner when we walk him around the block. He has been accepted by our two cats and dog. Brutus has truly settled in to our hearts and family.
It is a real thrill for us to see Brutus come charging at the front door when the doorbell is rung. Kind of frightening, too, to see that much mass coming at you.
